DHS boy to captain SA U19 cricket squad

Local lad, Sibonelo Makhanya has made his school and the KZN Cricket Union proud after he was selected to Captain the U19 SA squad.

SIBONELO Makhanya, of Durban High School has been selected to captain the South African U19 cricket squad which will tour England from 23 July to 22 August.

Makhanya is a product of DHS and has represented KZN cricket in all junior age groups over the past five years. He was part of the first SA U19 team to win the ICC U19 World Cup in 2014.

Makhanya follows in the footsteps of four SA U19 captains, Rivash Gobind, Hashim Amla, Imraan Khan and Chad Bowes all from KZN, .

Sibonelo Makhanya also becomes the first black African to captain SA U19.

Andile Phehlukwayo and Lwandiswa Zuma from KZN have also made the SA U19 squad.

“On behalf of the KwaZulu Natal Cricket Union Council and staff we would like to congratulate all three players and wish them well on their tour,” said Jesse Chellen, KZN Cricket Union CEO.
