Martial arts fighters scoop MFC SA title belts

David Verster veteran MMA instructor excelled with fellow Lions Den fighter Jason Pretorius with two SA title belts after winning their fights at the Greyville Racecourse this month.

BRAZILIAN Jiu-Jitsu fighter and martial arts instructor, David Verster excelled with fellow Lions Den fighter Jason Pretorius with two SA Megladon Fight Club (MFC) title belts after winning their fights at the Greyville Racecourse this month.

A well respected veteran in the industry, Verster runs Lions Den SA MMA in Glenwood and has been doing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for about 20 years. There have been three fights since Verster's comeback last year that led to the major title fight. “In the first fight back in the ring I was hit on my nose once, that was the last time I was hit. In the last three I used my skill set and honed in to submit my opponents, the next fights ended in a minute and ten seconds and the last was a 14 second submission from my opponent,” he said proudly.

Meanwhile, Pretorius a young fighter who has only been fighting for a few years has “done very well” according to Verster. The building contractor has had the lightweight and light heavyweight title previously and took a year off after injury before he returned to the ring this month to take the current MFC Middleweight Champion title. “I'm really happy because we both won our fights in less than two minutes so we are definitely doing something right,” he said.

Both fighters will continue to train hard to defend their titles and are hoping to join EFC fights in this year.
