McKay takes junior golf title

A Mount Edgecombe golfer will be playing in the national final of the Glacier Junior Series after winning a tournament at Durban Country Club.

YOUNG golfer, Gregory McKay, booked his place in the national final of the Glacier Junior Series when he won the A Division of the Papwa Sewgolum Tournament at Durban Country Club last Thursday.

McKay won with a score of 74, beating Victoria Country Club’s Nikhil Gopal by two strokes. It was a solid finish by Gopal, who last year was playing in the B Division and who since has worked his way into the premier division of the country’s most popular junior golf series.

Third place went to defending champion Jason Broomhead from Durban Country Club with a round of 78.

In the C Division, Ethan Govender finished second for the second year running with 39 points. Nicholas Phipps won the division with his 41 points.
