Rugby coaching tips
Rikus Goosen from a local sports academy gives tips on the forwards.

RIKUS Goosen from Rugga Skills Rugby Academy offers tips to rugby coaches.
This week the focus is on the The Tight Head Prop.
“We have been discussing the no. 1, the loose head prop and the no. 2, the hooker. This week, we discuss the no. 3 on your jersey and this is the tight
head prop. The tight head prop has to keep the scrum locked and stop it going backwards. He needs to take a lot of weight, so a tight head prop needs to be
physically strong,” he said.
Goosen said the tight head prop, same as the loose head prop, needs to support the jumpers in the line out. The no. 1, 2 and 3 are all specialised positions and need to be trained in these positions.
The body position of theses positions are very important and players need to be well coached in theses positions to avoid spinal injuries.
Goosen will start with the second row next week.
“Coaches remember, player safety always first,” he said.
