Five karate girls have achieved well at a recent karate championship in Gauteng.

KZN SKISA karate Proteas excelled at the recent Zone 6 Africa championships hosted by Karate South Africa (KSA) in Gauteng

All five KZN Proteas, Tahira Reddy, Kiara Lakram, Dyna Naidoo, Bianca Mothilall and Sasha Pillay were outstanding in their performances, achieving a podium finish winning silver and bronze medals at the prestigious Annual Africa Zone 6 tournament

Protea coach Brando Pillay, a mentor to the five girls, paid glowing tribute to his protégé's. “Based on their outstanding performance at the recent Africa event that included countries such as Zimbabwe, Angola, Mozambique, Namibia and others, I firmly believe if they stay focused these girls are future world champs,” said Brando.

Kiara Lakram who left recently for the WKF World Youth Cup 2015 in Eastern Europe with fellow Africa medalist Bianca Mothiram, expressed her delight in winning a silver medal at the championships.

“I feel inspired by my achievement at the Africa championships in Gauteng and I am aiming high for the upcoming World youth cup. I want to make my country South Africa proud with a gold medal.”

All five girls will glove up once again to do battle at the SA open at the end of July in Durban in pursuit of national KSA titles.
