Rugby fundraiser a success

Joost van der Westhuizen and other rugby greats entertained hundreds of guests at Glenwood High School on Friday night.

GLENWOOD High School in Association with the Joost Group, hosted an evening with Joost and Friends on Friday 4 September.

The evening's event was to help raise funds for the Joost Group and Joost van der Westhuizens’s fight against MND disease. The event also helped to raise funds for the Glenwood 1st XV rugby team that have been invited to participate in the Sanix World Rugby Youth Tournament in Fukuoka prefecture, Japan in 2016.

More than 370 people attended this evening which was a unique opportunity to spend time with some of the dignitaries and rugby legends of the past. The panel that assisted on the evening included Joost van der Westhuizen, John Allan, Gary Tiechman and André Joubert, who provided the entertainment for the evening in the form of a Q&A discussion.

Master of ceremonies, Ian McIntosh, shared a number of jokes and witty remarks to start the night off on a relaxed note. The panel were asked questions about the upcoming world cup and shared some stories from their past events.

The evening was then rounded off by a well-supported auction of items, and a great evening of true camaraderie was enjoyed by all.

Glenwood High extends its thanks to all sponsors of the evening, Thompson Travel, Dirks Butchery, Flight Centre, Kia Motors, Rockhaven band for providing items and entertainment for the evening, and the J9 group and Joost van der Westhuizen and panel for making the evening a great success.
