Celebrity ride a prelude to Amashova

Tsogo Sun Amashova rolled out the red carpet for their celebrity ride on Thursday.

SOUTH Africa’s oldest classic cycle race, Tsogo Sun Amashova is almost upon us and to celebrate, Suncoast hosted a celebrity ride on Thursday, 10 September with enthusiastic celebrities keen to put foot to the pedal and show their metal.

Among the guests were SA Rugby Legends, Andre Joubert, John Slade and Butch James, a number of well-known faces from Tsogo Sun, Greg Albert from Cyclesphere, Pete de Wet, CEO of the Sunfoil Dolphins as well as MasterChef SA Season 3 winner, Roxi Wardman and her fiance’ Byron Maclou.

It was a morning filled with fun, excitement and cheers as celebrities took off on bicycles sponsored by Cyclesphere and were given a royal escort by a fleet of Harley Davidsons. The 5km route started at Suncoast and continued on to Blue Lagoon, along Athlone and Masabalala Yengwa Avenue and back onto the promenade to the finish at Suncoast.

Roxi Wardman commended the event and said on completion of the ride: “It was an awesome experience and I had a great time. Plus an added bonus was the warm weather that allowed us to really see the beauty of our City.”

The Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic takes place on Sunday, 18 October, with the much anticipated 106km main race that will have cyclists setting off at 7am from the Pietermaritzburg City Hall, the 65km Half Challenge beginning at 5.30am at Drew Lane in Cato Ridge and the 35km fun ride beginning at 5.30am at Old Main Road, Lillies Quarter in Hillcrest.
