Catherine wins gold

Catherine Lafitte won gold at the SA Gymnastics Games.

CATHERINE Lafitte, a Grade 10 pupil at Durban Girls' High School represented KZN in the 14th SA Gymnastics Games held at Wits from 5 to 10 October.

Catherine won a gold medal in each of her four disciplines, namely, Free Dance, Hoop, Ribbon and Clubs, making her the overall gold medalist for level 9 O/15, and first in South Africa in her age group.

Catherine was also part of the 86 strong Team SA that participated in the 15th World Gymnaestrada in Finland in July. This event hosted over 20 000 participants from more than 50 countries.

Catherine is coached by Robyn Baker and Yvonne Garland of Ocean Rhythmic Gymnastics Club.

Other overall medal winners from Ocean voluntary gymnasts were Amy Cooper, Gold level 10 O/15, Kirthi Juglal, Gold level 9 U/13, Michael Damons, Silver level 9 U/13 and Omeka Ntombela Bronze level 8 O/15.

Ocean also won gold for the Elite Ball group and silver for the dance group.

Catherine is also a member of the 1st team badminton and 1st team touch rugby team at Durban Girls' High School.
