Croquet club invites more players
The Berea Croquet Club invite the community to participate on their greens.
THE Berea Croquet Club enjoyed a fun afternoon on Saturday when it opened its greens to the community with a visitors day.
Ducie Chadderton, (95) the oldest member of the Club, has enjoyed playing at the club for the past 31 years. ” I recall reading about it and looking for a place to play. We used to play at Richard Carte's place he was a the Durban mayor at the time. I have since played regularly and even taught over the years. Croquet is a thinking man's game, if you play snooker, you take to it much easier because they are similar in that it is all about tactics and knowing the different shots.”
Ducie said croquet and ballrooom dancing are her two passions in life and she hopes to have more croquet players on the greens in future.
Based at the at the Berea Bowling Club, on the corner of Brand and Ferguson Roads, the croquet club meets every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 13.45pm.
