Quins’ go all out in league matches

Quins' cricket teams did well in league matches this weekend.

UMBILO Harlequins first cricket team took on Simplex from Reservoir Hills in a stream one Challenge League match at Harlequins on Sunday 1 November.

However, no one in the Quins batting line up with the exception of Sean Edward, managed to master the Simplex RHSCS bowling. Sean scored 25 runs, inclusive of some powerfully struck strokes square of the wicket. Some uncharateristically inconsistent bounce was evident during the innings, perhaps a reason for the low score.

Simplex RHSCS lost two wickets in the very first over of their innings, clean bowled by front line striker Kevin Kettle which raised Quins’ hopes of seeing an early entrance of some tail-enders to the crease. Dieter Liebenberg’s right arm wrist spinners removed Simplex middle order, taking four wickets for 25 runs in seven overs and to the brink of a victory with Simplex nine wickets down and 17 runs short of the target. However, some doggedly responsible batting by an opposition’s lower middle order batsman denied Quins a victory. Simplex RHSCS won by one wicket.

Other team results: Quins 3rds vs Pinetown three: Pinetown made 147 runs; Quins 3 won by five wickets.

Quins 4ths vs Newlands East Kensea 5: Quins 4 made 140 runs, winning by three runs (Clinton Abrahams 38 runs). Quins 4 then went on to dismiss Newlands East Kensea for just three runs short of their target in a cliff-hanger of a match. Wickets were shared fairly evenly between all ten bowlers, which is unusual in cricket.

Quins 6ths vs Clares: Clares made 126/7 (Zane Gaze 4/23, Darryl Lavender 2/24, Darryl Lavender made 38 runs, Gavin Hazell made 35 not out). Harlequins scored 130/6.

Quins U13s vs FAM Kwamakuta. FAM were dismissed for 25 runs (Quins batman Seth majiera scored 24 not out, Corben Stubs made three runs). Quins won by 10 wickets.

Quins U11s vs Umlazi: Quins made 153 runs (Deen Fredericks with 30 runs, Biran Rachman with 26 runs). Umlazi were dismissed for 22 runs. Quins won by 131 runs.

Youth leagues recess until 17 January. Seniors continue with a full round of league matches this weekend with the fourth team at home and all the rest of the sides having away matches.
