Unfair officiating hampers Quins

Quins' first team lost its challenge league encounter against Ilembe at the weekend.

UMBILO Harlequins first team took on a composite side from Ilembe in a 50 over a side stream one challenge league encounter on Sunday.

All three Quins pace bowlers performed admirably delivering a grand total of 94 balls, capturing three wickets and conceding 39 runs to Ilembe's batsmen. Wrist spinner Dieter Liebenberg was Quins' most effectual bowler capturing three wickets for 15 runs in 10 overs, seeing to the demise of Ilembe's innings in 35,4 overs at 100 runs. Huey Naicker top scored for Quins with 16 runs, however some unfortunate officiating by the official umpires, one of which was Huey's demise being adjudged leg before wicket, another was a chest high full delivery to one of Quins' in-form batsmen which was held out to an Ilembe fielder, and other incidents of sledging by Ilembe which the official umpires failed to curtail.

Quins were just 22 runs shy of Ilembe's total, being dismissed in the 23rd over on a wicket with some extent of inconsistency. This is a match that Quins would have been victorious in had the officiating been fair to both teams.

Other team results: Quins 2nds vs Phoenix 2: Quins made 171 runs (K Spykerman top scored with 41 runs, John Meintjies was next best with 25 runs, Saint John Piek added 22 runs and Daryn Mofitt managed 21 runs, Mark Goviea 3/10, Saint John Piek 5/26 runs). Quins 2nds won by 53 runs.

Quins 4ths vs East Coast 3: Quins made 167 runs (Clinton Abrahams made 47 runs, Chris Schulenburg scored 36 runs). Quins 4ths won by six runs.

Quins 5ths vs Simplex Seven: Simplex 7 made 92 runs (Warren Jordan 4/15, Dylan Jenkins 4/7). Quins 5ths won by seven wickets.

On Saturday 14 November Quins' fifth team plays a 30 over division five game against Delta 7 at SL Singh 2; the first team take on Umzinto at Harlequins 1 and the third side verse Chatsworth Sporting three at Harlequins 2. All other teams have byes.
