Bonus point for Quins in league clash win

Quins' beat ACC by 14 overs in a Challenge League match on Sunday.

UMBILO Harlequins Cricket Club’s first team played their fourth 50 over stream one challenge match at Hutchinson Park, Amanzimtoti on Sunday 22 November.

Quins batted first and the usual batting capitulation seemed imminent when the fifth wicket fell with the score on 51 runs. However, number five batsman Christo Beyleveld stood firm along with Sean Edward who scored 26 runs, Jono Ray 13 runs and Ryan Baronet 15 runs. However it was Quins' captain batting at number nine who was undefeated on 46 runs, who top scored taking Quins total to 187 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Dieter struck five fours and a six over the long leg boundary during a credible innings.

ACC were in heaps of trouble throughout most of their innings when Quins' 17-year-old opening bowler, Adam Mather, bowling his right arm seamers directly into the moderate southerly wind, dismissed six ACC batsman for 27 runs in a 10-over spell. Sean Edward took out three opposition batsmen for 25 runs in 34 deliveries. Justin Jones top scored for ACC and was top scorer of the match with 66 runs, being undefeated on 66 runs at the termination of ACC’s innings which was 42 runs short of Quins total, with 14 overs remaining. Quins took four match points for the victory plus one bonus point.

Other team results: Quins 2nds vs Silver Saints: Silver Saints made 80 runs (Wayne Rittmuller 3/14 runs; Mark Goveia 3/11, Sheldon Spindler made 44 runs, G Riddle made 30 runs). Quins won by 10 wickets.

Quins 3rds vs UKZN 3: Quins made 154 runs (Connie Germishuizen top scored with 55 runs, Brett Williams made 21 runs, Chris Brady got 16 runs, Pierre Horn took half the wickets for five runs, Josh Brady and Josh Henry took two wickets each. Quins 3, who won by 80 runs, remain undefeated this season and are at the helm of division one, aspirant of winning this league.

With the exception of the third team all senior sides have scheduled league matches on 28 and 29 November.

Coaching for U11s and U13s will continue as usual and seniors will practice on Friday at 4.30pm.
