Beachy fundraiser for NSRI
The South Jersey Pom-Poms will perform as this year’s Band on the Sand fundraiser for the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) hosted by Point Yacht Club on Saturday, 21 May.
FOR one night only, enjoy a quirky evening at this year’s Band on the Sand featuring the South Jersey Pom-Poms on Saturday, 21 May at the exquisite setting of the Point Yacht Club beach site from 5pm.
The event is the Point Yacht Club’s second National Sea Rescue Institute, NSRI fundraising concert on the beach. Locals are invited to watch a magnificent Durban sunset, grab a bite to eat, enjoy a few beverages and relish an evening of blues and views with all the proceeds raised going to the NSRI Durban Station 5.
Concert-goers can enjoy the sultry sounds of Durban’s best kept secret, the South Jersey Pom-Poms. The whimsical band offers a wry and original performance. Their eclectic compositions include Café house tunes in French, Italian and German and blend jazz and blues elements with Eastern European and American folk music.
The Pom-Poms are made up of the talented Be Henwood on vocals and piano accordion, Jochen Zeller on guitar and vocals, Sean Stewart on bass, and Grant Emmerich on percussion. They are joined as always by the unstoppable violinist extraordinaire, Anton Cawthorn-Blazeby, who will be fiddling up his normal brew of magic.
“The evening is also kid friendly, so families can come down, throw a blanket on the sand and just chill out, truly enjoying Durban at its best this time of year. Bearing in mind it is next to the sea, so be mindful of kids and water. Also bring a jersey in case there is a nip in the air,” added Smith.
Tickets cost R160 for adults, and includes a meal and a drink, R80 for kids under 12, including a hotdog and a drink. Tickets need to be purchased ahead of time, no door sales on the evening. No Chinese lanterns are allowed on the beach. Contact Amanda at the Point Yacht Club on 031 301 4787 or the Point Watersports Club or Durban Undersea Club on 031 368 1199 for more information.
