WATCH: Berea lass needs your help to get to Nationals
Berea's Ciara Clark, a 10-year-old gymnast selected to participate in the Nationals, will be raising funds to get her to Cape Town for the competition next month.
CIARA Clark, a 10-year-old gymnast from St Theresa’s Primary has been selected to compete in the annual SA Gym Games in Cape Town from 5 to 8 October.
The young Berea gymnast was six years old when she was introduced to the sport and has progressed exponentially over the past four years. Currently in level 5, she started competing after a year and participated in many local and provincial competitions with her first national competition last year. “I like competing, but sometimes get scared and my mum reminds me that its all the same things that I do at the gym so I can’t be afraid.
“It is a bit hard on the bar but the other stuff like ballet moves, back flips off the beam and on the trampoline as well as the floor routines I really enjoy. I also can do the splits which is very cool and hope to get a gold medal in the competition,”she told Berea Mail.
Last year she also represented the KZN team at nationals in Pretoria.
The young star loves singing dancing, running, long jump and high jump and has hopes of participating in the Olympics. “When I grow older I don’t want to get lazy and stop gymnastics because I’d like to see myself competing on TV like I watch other gymnasts,” she added.
Ciara’s mum, Charmaine Daya, appealed to the community to help Ciara follow her dream. “She loves being a gymnast and we support and encourage her. She has showed great potential and achieved a lot in a short time from gymnastics thanks to her coach at the Central Gymnastics Club,” she added.
Ciara’s family have arranged cake sales, raffles at her school and appeal to the community to support her at a fundraising dance at St Theresa’s Hall on Saturday evening, 1 October. Funds raised will go to helping Ciara get to the nationals competition.
