Karatekas earn podium finishes

“All three number one ranked KSA national fighters fought among the best of the best in Africa and made our rainbow nation proud."

SKISA Protea karatekas Riasha Singh, Osman Ghoor and Daena Naidoo all achieved a podium finish at the weekend’s All Africa Championships in Cameroon.

Osman Ghoor narrowly lost the final, through a poor refereeing decision and was forced to settle for a silver medal. Pint-sized Daena Naidoo fought like a tigress to make the final but came up against a giant-like opponent from the host country Cameroon in the final, also winning silver.

Top ranked national fighter Riasha Singh was grouped among the best senior female fighters in Africa and after a bruising encounter came away with a bronze medal.

“All three number one ranked KSA national fighters fought among the best of the best in Africa and made our rainbow nation proud with their podium finish,” said their mentor and Protea head coach, Brando Pillay.

“The record breaking performance that saw Team South Africa KSA come home with a huge haul of 15 medals, three All Africa champions included, is very encouraging and sets the tone for our KSA fighters to aim high for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics,” said Sonny Pillay Hanshi, President of the National Federation KSA.
