Durban Ultra Sprint to attract triathlon newbies

Race director Damian Bradley confirmed that the entry for the elite Ultra event are good.

WITH the clock counting down to the MiWayLife Durban Ultra Triathlon on Sunday, 4 March, organisers have agreed to take late entries for the Sprint event.

The Sprint event, which can be raced as an individual or in a team with a different athlete taking on a leg of the triathlon, consists of a 600m swim, a 20 km cycle on full road closure, and a 5km run, making it easily accessible to social athletes keen to get into triathlon.

Organiser Damian Bradley has agreed to take entries for the team event at the race registration at the Sunkist lawns in front of the Moses Mabhida stadium from 9am to 4pm on Saturday 3 March until the cap of 800 athletes is reached. A race briefing will be held at 4pm on Saturday, registration day. Social athletes that don’t have a Triathlon SA licence can buy a day licence for R30.

The route will be closed from 6am and will be reopened as soon as the last athletes have been moved off the route, which is estimated to be around 1pm.

The run leg is based on a 5km lap for the Sprint runners and three 7km laps for the Ultra athletes, utilising the Durban beachfront

The Ultra event consists of a 1,9km swim, a 90km cycle leg and a 21km run.
