Scottburgh MTB continues to evolve

The Sappi Scottburgh MTB event is still changing and growing, ten years on.

A DECADE after the first Sappi Scottburgh MTB and Trail Run Weekend was scheduled, 2018 sees the first edition of the trail run element which adds to the appeal of a sporting weekend on the South Coast on 21 and 22 July.

“I always wanted to put on a race in Scottburgh because we had the MTB trails and I thought it was what we needed. It was always a case of having the money to put on a race and when Billy Harker came on board we were able to get the first Scottburgh MTB Race off the ground in 2008,” race founder and organiser Flavio Scarpa said.

“Trail running was an element that I have been trying to include and with the team at ROAG telling me that if I introduced a trail run then Scottburgh could be part of the ROAG Series, it was a no-brainer for us! We are looking forward to welcoming trail runners to Scottburgh for the first time for the various Funky Pants Trail Runs,” Scarpa said.

Having had ten years to smooth out the trails for the South Coast classic, Scarpa is excited to welcome riders back to his piece of mountain biking paradise.

“The trails are well rounded and have got a bit of everything for all riders, but will remain true to our motto of being raw and untamed!” an enthusiastic Scarpa added.
