Quins smashed by Simplex
Harlequins Cricket Club's first team was beaten by Simplex by 46 runs.
ALL Durban and District Cricket Union matches were cancelled for the weekend of 26 and 27 January on account of waterlogged fields.
Umbilo Harlequins Cricket Club was however involved in a scheduled 50 over per team promotion league match against Simplex Crimson on Sunday.
A combination of the non-preferred wicket being used which was slower, exacerbated by an extent of water permeation, neutralised Quins’ usually potent strike bowlers causing them to be non-penetrative in their initial spells. However, a spectacular run out executed by Andrea Dal Moro removed Crimson’s opening batsman quite early in the match, followed by a catch at second slip by Kevin Kettle off pace bowler Yousuf Godil.
Another run out by Yousuf Godil removed the other well set opposition opener Argon Gopalan. A further run out by Jordan Bryan assisted Quins in their quest. It was an outstanding six over spell by slow right arm orthodox bowler Andrea Dal Moro in which he captured three wickets for 17 runs, and a single over by Brandon De Meillon who took the final two wickets for eight runs. Nifty wicket keeping by Daniel smuts resulted in two dismissals by stumpings and a good catch behind the wickets. Crimson were dismissed for 142 runs in 30 overs.
Harlequins’ top order batsmen were vulnerable and fickle resulting in the loss of four wickets for 25 runs by the 10th over. Middle order batsmen Brandon De Meillon (21 runs), Dillon Byran (18 runs) and Kevin Kettle (15 runs) provided some resurgence to the failing endeavour, however Quins had lost too many wickets to comprehensively resurrect their innings, eventually dismissed for 96 runs in 28 overs. Crimson won by 46 runs.
Other team results: Quins’ 4ths versed DDC: Quins 4 made 153 runs; DDC were dismissed for 53 runs in 10 overs.
With the exception of Quins 4, all other teams inclusive of the U11 side have league matches scheduled for 2 and 3 February. U11 players aspirant of participating in the youth leagues may contact Clinton on 071 007 9745.
