Five wins for Harlequins

Harlequins Cricket Club's teams won five of their matches at the weekend.

ALL five of Harlequins Cricket Club’s senior teams won their respective league matches on Sunday, and the sixth senior team won its group T20 match last weekend giving the club a “clean sweep” for the first time in a while.

The first team took on Topham in a 50 over a side stream one promotion league match on Sunday at Harlequins. A patient innings by Jordan Bryan accrued him 39 runs in the other opening berth. An enterprising innings by Kevin Kettle comprising a straight drive for six, an on drive for six, another to forward mid-wicket for maximum, as well as a further boundary, netted him 32 runs. Heath Manicom scored a well-deserved 31 runs and Brandon De Meillon played out a dynamic innings of 44 runs comprising two sixes and three fours, to get the home team through to a defendable innings of 183 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 50 overs.

Topham’s innings commenced disastrously for the visiting team when fast bowler Kevin Kettle removed the top three batsmen and had Topham three wickets down for 15 runs by the fourth over. Kevin captured three wickets for 23 runs in six overs. A quality run out in the fifth over by Andrea Dal Moro had Topham at 17 for four wickets. Andrea Dal Moro’s ten over spell of right arm orthodox slow bowling gave him three wickets for 17 runs. Pace bowler Yousuf Godil captured one wicket for 18 runs in seven overs. Brandon De Meillon and Fayaz Safri captured a wicket each, all assisting to dismiss Topham for 113 runs in 36.5 overs.

Quins take four points from the victory as well as a bonus point for dismissing the opposition in less than 40 overs.
