Dedication pays off for young Durban swimmer

Throughout the season she has tallied up 28 gold, 8 silver and 8 bronze medals and was recognised as the top age group swimmer with the most points over 4 different occasions

YOUNG swimmer, Payton Aitken, a learner at Penzance Primary School has reason to celebrate.

Payton, who trains under Coach Wesley Vickery for Trident Swimming Academy, performed exceptionally well this past season ranking in the Top 10 for the Women 10 years and under in South Africa.

Payton came 2nd in SA in the 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke events, 3rd in SA in the 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke events and 5th in SA in the 100m butterfly event.

She also finished 9th in SA in the 200m individual medley event.

Payton was also selected for the KZN team to take part in the SA National Biathlon Championship but unfortunately, due to the lockdown, this event was cancelled.

She was recently selected for the Umlazi District Schools swimming team to take part in the provincial trials. She will be swimming in the 11-year-old age group.
