Elite cyclist gears up for 124km race
Travis Stedman has been building experience with some international stage races.
THE inaugural Nozulu Durban to Port Shepstone cycle race is set to take place on Sunday, December 18.
The field for the 124km is headlined by Team Qhubeka pro Travis Stedman who won the 947 Ride Joburg in 2021.
The 20-year-old Durban rider has been building experience with some international stage races, including a few top 10 and top 20 finishes in stages on the Tour of Britain, Tour de l’Avenir and Tour of Sicily and other one-day classics.
The route for next weekend’s Nozulu Durban to Port Shepstone follows the R102 and will have an early 05:00 start. Riders will face an undulating route that is littered with short, punchy climbs.
Stedman’s all-round ability means he could win from a solo breakaway and use his time-trialling prowess to set up the victory. Or he could claim the inaugural title when he unleashes his quality sprint as the peloton turns toward the finish line in Port Shepstone.

There will be rolling road closures for cyclists with some disruption to the early morning traffic along the R102 between Durban and Port Shepstone.
Most roads will be closed for more than an hour before the first rider is expected and will then be re-opened after the last rider and sweep vehicles have passed.
Durban Central will be impacted by road closures between 04:30 and 05:30.
