Glenwood softball player takes international stage
Glenwood's Dylan Ebrahim is no stranger to the pitch –he took up baseball at the age of six.
GLENWOOD resident Dylan Ebrahim (21) was among the KwaZulu-Natal Men’s Softball stars chosen for the U23 Softball World Cup held in Argentina on April 11. Berea Mail sat down to chat with the star athlete and find out more about softball.
Ebrahim also took part in the National Provincial Championships at Hoy Park recently. He is no stranger to the pitch – Ebrahim took up baseball at the age of six, making the KZN schools team at just ten years old. His softball career started when he was 11, a Grade Four learner playing with Grade Six and Seven learners.

“By the time I reached Grade Six, I had made the KZN schools team and played on the tram from Grade Six to 12. I have always played shortstop for schools softball, a position that makes me very involved in the game. Once I reached the men’s team, I have been used more as a utility player, meaning I can play multiple positions,” commented the sportsman.

He has racked up several awards along the way.
“At schools level, I won the IPT four out of my seven years and made all star teams for a couple years,” said Ebrahim, who added that his team made the finals two out of three times and won silver.

“My biggest achievement, I would say, was making the African qualifiers team last year, where we played Kenya to qualify for the World Cup,” he said.
When asked what advice he would share with aspiring softball players, Ebrahim said, “Keep working hard and don’t give up. In the game of softball, consistency is key.”
