Bierfest offers up brews and bratwurst
Enjoy a day out in traditional Oktoberfest style at Suncoast Casino.

IT’S time to bust out the Bavarian brews, bratwurst and lederhosen because Tops at Spar Bierfest is back bigger than ever before.
Modelled on Munich’s world famous Oktoberfest, Tops at Spar Bierfest recreates the revelry, tradition, and of course the beer, of Bavarian beer festivals of old. Bierfest will be kicking off in Durban at Suncoast from 12 to 15 September.
Now in its third year, Tops at Spar Bierfest is officially South Africa’s biggest beer festival. Founding partner South African Breweries, have once more called upon their Master Brewers to craft three limited edition Bavarian-styled beers, exclusively brewed for Bierfest. Beers include the always popular Royal Bavaria Oktoberfest Bier, the traditional Krystal Weiss Protea Edelweiss and the specialty dark ale.
The King Ludwig Munich Dunkel. Master Brewers will be located onsite for tasting and beer education at Bierfest’s Braumeister Ecke – a.k.a Brewmaster’s Corner.
Bierfest is hosted inside a 2,500-seater Bavarian Brauhaus festooned with Bavarian décor from the motherland. Revelers will be served in traditional style by costumed Fraulein bearing fistfuls of frothing beer steins to wash down mouth-watering Bavarian food including pork knuckle (eisbein), German sausages, pickles, pretzels and sauerkraut. Adding to the festive vibe, a world class entertainment program including an authentic oompah band, will have you stomping your feet and raising your glasses in a toast to good times.
A smorgasbord of traditional Oktoberfest challenges will be on offer to test your strength and skill, including the launch of Bierfest’s official sport, Beer Pong. Be sure to dress up in your dirndl (durn-dell) and lederhosen because there will be competitions for the best dressed King Ludwig and Princess Therese at every show, with fantastic prizes to be won.
There are two ticket options available. Standard Bier Hall tickets to the event are R100 and include entrance to the event, along with free bier tasting. This year sees the introduction of the R150 Über Bier Hall ticket which includes entrance to the event, a 500ml bier, bier tasting, dress up accessory and a Glamcam picture. Reserve a table of 12 and stand a chance to win a trip for two to the Munich Oktoberfest. All purchases of food and drinks at the festival are made with crowns, available in denominations of R25 and sold in packs of five. Crowns are non-refundable.
The event is not open to anyone under the age of 18. To book, go to www.bierfest.co.za, or contact Bierfest on 087 985 0635.
