Local playwright Lucky Cele and director Themi Venturas are looking for actors that can sing, dance and act to audition for a part in the new musical he wrote Mashu- The Musical.
MZANSI Arts Development Ensemble, MADE will present a new theatre production, Mashu, The Musical and auditions for the exciting production take place on Friday, 23 January.
Auditions will be held at the Playhouse Company (Mayville) Room M2 on Friday from 9am to 5pm.
“We are looking for people who can sing, dance and act at a professional level and must be available for the full day of the audition. There are parts for 16 men and 11 women,” said local playwright Lucky Cele.
The story tells a moving yet harrowing tale of the trials and tribulations of two brothers who are caught up in the madness that shattered the lives of the people of KwaMashu in the mid 90s. As the story unfolds we get an affectionate insight into the wonderful people that made up the community. Audiences will enjoy their resilience and humour as they cope with life in their troubled district.
Mashu is a combination of a moving story filled with hope for the future, great South African music and spectacular dance routines. The production is co-directed by Themi Venturas and Lucky Cele and takes place at The Playhouse Opera from the 18 to 21 March 2015.
“Telling stories is my passion and it is no coincidence that the first story I tell is about where I come from,” Cele said, adding, “ Whilst the story is based on actual events that took place, I have exercised my prerogative as a writer to tell my own story – call it poetic and artistic licence.”
