Singing in harmony

Shelley McLean and other women singers with a love for the art will entertain at the Rhumbelow Theatre.

RHUMBELOW Theatre in Cunningham Avenue (off Bartle Road), Umbilo, presents WISH (Women In Singing Harmony) from Friday, 20 to Sunday, 22 February.

WISH is an initiative set up by well-know Durban performer, Shelley McLean, and is a vocal class offered to all women who have 'a song in their hearts'.

Shelley identified a gap in the music world for the many people who loved singing at school or at university, but now find themselves without an outlet for sharing their singing passion.

After receiving several requests for private singing lessons, McLean decided to head up a group vocal class, one that would enable singers to learn more about the technical aspects of singing as well as explore the delights of singing in harmony while increasing their repertoire.

This group has steadily grown over the past two years, and the current WISH group is rehearsing hard for their upcoming showcase at the Rhumbelow Theatre.

This year's showcase will also introduce 11 new WISH ladies to the stage.

The WISH showcase includes a varied repertoire and highlights the hidden talents of women whose ages range from student to retired, and whose professions include teachers, home executives, a chiropractor, architects and more.

Cost is R100 a ticket, R90 for pensioners and tables of eight or more. Take food picnic baskets along. The venue opens 90 minutes before the show for a picnic dinner. Braais will be available should you wish to cook some meat.

Bookings are essential through Computicket, or contact Roland on 082 499 8636 or roland@stansell.za.net.
