‘Sax in the City’ at uShaka

Saxophonist, Andrew Young, will perform at Wahooz on Sunday, 1 March.

ENJOY an irresistible combination of summer, sax and salsa between 1pm and 4pm on Sunday, 1 March at Wahooz on the Promenade.

Popular saxophonist, Andrew Young, will be making waves at this rustic beach venue with a performance crammed with spicy salsas, hot mambas, reggae, rhythm and romance. Together with his band, Young brings sounds of the Caribbean to the Golden Mile, while Wahooz adds a few exotic cocktails to the mix.

Known as the ‘Prince of the Saxophone’ worldwide, Young is the next best thing to a homegrown talent. He was a member of the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra and has performed with local musical greats such as Joseph Shabalala from Ladysmith Black Mambazo and James Galway.

Born in England, Young was classically trained in both clarinet and saxophone from the tender age of eight. After completing his studies in London he moved to Germany, where he explored other genres of music, performing at numerous concerts, functions and events across Europe.

By the time he’d released nine albums, Young had added an African note to his repertoire and has brought out his beloved sax at many music festivals in South Africa including The International Jazz Festival (Cape Town), Jazzathon (Cape Town), JPL Jazz Festival (Durban), National Arts Festival (Grahamstown) and the Rand Easter Show (Johannesburg).

Entrance is free and music lovers can look forward to a sultry afternoon of great food, chilled drinks and a unique mix of music that will include well-loved songs such as ‘Georgia’, ‘Baker Street’ and ‘Still Got the Blues’.
