Up close with Mi Casa’s Mo-T

BEREA Mail chats to Mi Casa’s, Mo-T about Durban, his plans for the year and his love for fans ahead of the Old Mutual Music at the Lake concert this Sunday, 15 March.

1. What is the highlight of your year so far (and why)?
Starting the new year with the group together, I am so grateful that we are still happy to perform together and , thank God, that we still strong as a group because its hard and many groups break up.

2. What is your favourite Durban restaurant?
Spiga d’ Oro! It has the best pasta ever, the whole group will always ask the driver to take us to Spiga. I love Durban fans too! Durban is always amazing, look out for a really good show.

3. What movie did you recently enjoy watching and why?
If Only, it was a story close to my heart because I’m married and have a child. It was a very interesting story with life lessons to love your partner and celebrate that love because you never know when the day comes that you lose your loved one. I also think it’s important to appreciate your partner and the blessings and moments given to us.

4. What album are you listening to in your car?
I have a few in the CD player, our latest album, John Legend’s older album where he is live with a 60’s band and De Angelo’s new CD.

5. What is you favourite and least favourite meal?
Fresh chicken salad well prepared. I used to be a junk food junkie, but now we always motivate each other in the group to eat healthy. My least favourite, well I hate olives and feta cheese.

6. How do you keep fit?
I gym three times a week with cardio and weights, but not heavy weights and try to eat well and lead a healthy lifestyle.

7. What are the three things that you feel make South Africa great?
Our Culture of Ubuntu around the country, the togetherness, and the SA music and SA food…tourist attractions of each province.

8. What is the word or phrase you most overuse?
Trumpet! Ok seriously it is Mi Casa, because I live and breathe Mi Casa, we are so blessed and we always talking about it.

9. What is the funniest thing that ever happened to you…on stage?
I wasn’t performing but I had to present an award. I went on stage and we were all reading off the screen and suddenly at my part the screen went upside down then disappeared and I was shocked. Jay was laughing out loud when he got off stage. I messed up and took a minute to think before I free-styled and the audience clapped and didn’t even realise what had happened!.

10. What are your plans for the rest of the year?
We are releasing our first DVD as Mi Casa the group, it will all be shot in Cape Town. It will include our achievements received and stories of this country. We are very excited and will be releasing them every month and eventually it will be a short film that will hopefully be screened at cinemas nation wide.
