Zakes for Music at the Lake
Durban musician, Zakes Bantwini, will entertain crowds, along with a 12-piece band at the Durban Botanic Gardens.
MUSIC mogul, dreamer, entrepreneur, performer and style icon and platinum-selling house artist Zakes Bantwini will be firing up his home crowd at the Durban Botanic Gardens on Sunday, 12 April at 3pm.
This afternoon of sophisticated dance music forms part of the Old Mutual Music on the Lake season of concerts at the city’s famed gardens, which have become a popular weekend fixture with locals and visitors alike.
Born and raised in Durban, the artist known to his friends as Zakhele Madida has multiple albums and industry awards under his belt. Plus, he holds the distinction of being one of the pioneers of Durban kwaito music, a crossover genre that strikes the perfect balance between house beats and kwaito lyrics.
An all-round musician with academic and performance roots in jazz, Bantwini has also flourished as an independent label trailblazer, introducing the world to kwaito sensation L’vovo Derrango.
Bantwini will be performing with a 12-piece band at the Sunday afternoon picnic concert and will be supported by DJ Merlon.
Put on your dancing shoes, pack a cooler box with drinks and snacks, bring a picnic blanket and relax on the lawns while enjoying some quality music – or feel free to buy refreshments at the venue. Aside from playing in the idyllic setting of the gardens, children will also be well catered for, with the on-site Kidzone offering activities galore.
Tickets are R150 through www.webtickets.co.za and are available at the gate from 1.30pm at R170. Children aged eight to 12 pay R60 and under-eights get in free.
