Francofete family fun for Human Rights Day

The Alliance Française of Durban and eThekwini Municipality presents the fabulous, free fifth annual Francofête on Human Rights Day which takes place under the trees in Sutton Park in Durban’s Morningside on Monday 21 March.

THE Alliance Française of Durban and eThekwini municipality will hold the fifth annual Francofête on Human Rights Day, Monday, 21 March under the trees in Sutton Park in Morningside.

The free event will include a daytime family event from 10am until 4pm and an evening sun-downer music concert featuring an array of francophone world music, from 4.30 until 9.30pm.

The ever proactive Alliance Française uses this annual opportunity to showcase some of the best French; Francophone and French-inspired music; dance; theatre; story-telling; workshops; visual arts; exhibitions … and of course wonderful food and crafts in the alfresco market. The Francofête celebrates diversity and tolerance on the occasion of Human Rights Day and Francophone week, bringing together all walks of life in Durban, transcending through all cultures, generations and communities.

The day culminates with a free music concert with a four band line up starting at 4.30pm while the sun sets. The evening concert features iconic jazz great guitarist, vocalist Louis Mhlanga performing with Madagascar accordion player Regis Gizavo.

During the day, from 10am onwards, there will be family activities in Sutton Park, including a full programme on the Assitej youth stage of clowning, puppetry, juggling, story-telling and music. Of special mention is a story telling session with local storytelling icon Gcina Mhlophe paring her craft with Créole storyteller, Anny Grondin.
