The George Mari Band comes to the Jazzy Rainbow

The performance is part of the Concerts SA Venue Circuit aimed at fostering love for live music

GEORGE Mari is a Durban-based musician and music educator. He is also a part-time lecturer in the Jazz Studies programme at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, School of Arts (Music) and the Community Projects coordinator for the UKUSA Arts Programme – one of Durban’s longest running community music projects.

His performance at the Jazzy Rainbow, 93 Smiso Nkwanyana Road, Morningside, on Saturday, 29 April is part of the Concerts SA Venue Circuit which aims to foster a love and support for live music in the communities.

As a musician, George enjoys playing jazz standards and original compositions, such as those he recorded on his independently released albums Syringa Avenue and Since I Met You.

George performs often in Durban as trumpeter, pianist and singer in a range of musical settings with Melvin Peters, Burton Naidoo, Neil Gonsalves, Philani Ngidi, Ildo Nandja, Trevor Don Jeaney, Sidney Rash and Debbie Mari to name a few.

In 2013, Debbie and George Mari established Marigold Music School as an opportunity to share their knowledge and skills as professional musicians and experienced educators with children and adults of all abilities in the greater Durban area. The peformance starts at 7pm. Entrance fee is R70 and includes a free drink (T&C).
