Hip-hop artist in concert at Playhouse

Manelis is a hip-hop artist from Durban and is one of the defining artists in the city’s rap development from its beginning in the mid 90s.

DURBAN hip-hop artist Manelis will perform at The Playhouse Theatre on Friday, 1 June at 5pm.

Manelis is one of the defining artists in the city’s rap development from its beginning in the mid 90s. He was introduced to the art of hip hop as a dancer, then theatre through high school, only later opting to focus on music performance and rapping.

Manelis draws inspiration from old African flavors. His streetwise lyricism has an authentic Zulu feel with a colloquial touch that speaks of the African urban experience on soulful and sometimes alternatively experimental instrumental backdrops that inspire from a village to a global sonic landscape.

For this performance, he will be accompanied by Sanele Phakathi on keyboards, Sivumintando Mdamba on drums, Senzo Mdamba on bass and he will be featuring vocalist Zoe The Seed.

Entrance to the concert is free.
