Women arrested for getting into the wrong side of the law
The pair will appear in the Vosloorus and Springs magistrate's courts soon, respectively
Members of the EMPD Speed Enforcement Unit and Eastern Region Task Team officers arrested two women recently.
According to Kobeli Mokheseng, the EMPD spokesperson, a 52-year-old woman was arrested for failing to adhere to the regulated speed limit on January 13.
“The woman who was driving a Coupe Light vehicle around Dawn Park, on the R554 road next to Aucamp Avenue, clocked 145km/h in a 100km/h zone. She was escorted to the Dawn Park Police Station and was granted R1 000 bail. She faces charges of reckless and negligent driving,” he said.
Meanwhile, a 34-year-old woman of Springs was allegedly found in possession of a reported stolen vehicles on January 14 during a crime-prevention operation.
“While EMPD members were patrolling around Selection Park they noticed suspicious vehicles which were parked at a certain house. The woman voluntarily opened the main gate for the officers and apparently told them that her husband went to buy groceries,” he said.
Officers learned that the parked white branded (private business) single cab Ford Ranger was reported stolen in Midrand in April, 2019.
Another black Mercedes-Benz Viano minibus which was parked next to the Ford Ranger was reported stolen in Springs in April, 2016. Apparently, the original colour used to be silver.
“Officers discovered registration number plates on site which were confirmed to belong to robbed motor vehicles around Lenasia and Mondeo areas. “The woman, who was no longer cooperative after revelations, is facing charges of possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles and resisting an arrest. The nabbed suspect was taken to the Springs police station. The stolen vehicles were impounded to Van Ryn Deep, a police yard, in Benoni for safekeeping,” Mokheseng said.
The two women will appear in the Vosloorus and Springs magistrate’s courts soon, respectively.
