An outstanding performance by Morgan Robinson set the tone for St Dominic’s’ matric class of an unprecedented 2020 with eight distinctions as the all-girls school kept its pride intact with yet another 100 per cent pass rate.
Robinson aced all of accounting, Afrikaans, English, engineering and graphics design, life orientation, life sciences, mathematics and physical sciences to lead a very competitive group, which includes two students who obtained seven distinctions and four who achieved six distinctions.
Incredibly, the class of 2020, which had to endure all of the odds brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, achieved a higher (71 per cent) grade average compared to the previous group which averaged 70.
Furthermore, St Dom’s perfect pass rate has been the case for over 45 years, according to the school.
All of Senna Parsons and Anastasia Pesic acquired seven distinctions apiece while the quartet of Caitlin Dunsmuir, Madeline Scrase, Lerato Thamba and Carissa van Rooyen got six respectively.
Out of the total 83 candidates, a combined 153 distinctions were obtained with 99 per cent of the group earning a bachelor degree pass.
A further nine learners produced a commendable performance with five earning five distinctions each while the remaining four acquired four each.
Hoërskool Dr. E.G. Jansen
Elsewhere at St Dom’s’ government counterpart, Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen, the narrative was similar.
Their class of 2020 overcame Covid-19 challenges and emulated the class of 2019, which had managed a pass rate of 97 per cent.
The class of 2020 achieved the same pass rate with the pair of Cara Wijnbeek and Jacques van der Merwe leading the group with seven distinctions each. Other top performers included Dante du Toit and Shané Bronkhorst, who obtained five distinctions each while the triumvirate of Zanthe Potgieter, Marli Lombard and Andrea Olivier nabbed four each.
