Officers from Reiger Park Police Station recently conducted a search operation at Oos Rand School of Specialisation and Reiger Park Secondary School.
The operation, which involved the searching of over 300 learners, uncovered a disturbing array of illegal and dangerous items,
According to Constable Johannes Msimanga, spokesperson for the Reiger Park SAPS, the search uncovered six knives, 25 small bags of dagga and 20 vapes.
“These findings highlight an alarming trend of dangerous behaviour among young people, potentially leading to more serious issues, such as gang involvement.
“Reiger Park is an area where gangsterism is a significant concern and we want to curb this trend.
“We cannot allow our children to be exposed to such dangerous items, which could ultimately lead them down the path of gangsterism,” he added.

Msimanga said the operation is part of the ongoing safer schools programme, designed to create a safer learning environment by removing illegal substances and weapons from school premises and preventing the escalation of criminal activities.
He stressed the importance of parental involvement, urging parents to take an active role in monitoring their children’s behaviour and belongings, particularly when it comes to school bags.
“We are stressing the importance of routine checks to ensure that learners are not carrying dangerous or illicit items to school.”
