Wednesdays made extra special for pensioners

With delicious food, entertainment, and a warm atmosphere, the initiative is making a big impact in Boksburg and beyond.

In a heartwarming gesture to give back to the community, Wildebeest Live offers pensioners a complimentary breakfast including a cappuccino once a week.

Anyone over 60 is welcome to enjoy the ‘Beest Breakfast’ at the restaurant from 07:00 to 10:00 on a Wednesday

Boksburg Advertiser visited Wildebeest on March 12 to find the restaurant packed with senior citizens from Boksburg and surrounding areas, including Benoni, Brakpan, and Kempton Park, enjoying their breakfast.

Owner Mike van Vuuren said the business has a special place in its heart for the elderly.

“We started this initiative last year as a way to ‘pay it forward’. My father taught me that whatever you give comes back to you.
“It may just be a breakfast, but it’s our way of making a difference. Our waiters also serve the elderly with a smile.

“Some of the senior citizens don’t have children or family members, but now they have a breakfast outing to look forward to,” he said.
They typically serve between 100 and 200 seniors on Wednesdays.

During the Advertiser’s visit, Viv Kirk, also known as Mr Magic, wowed the pensioners with magic tricks.

Senior citizen Louise Fick (67) said the atmosphere was the highlight of the morning for her.

Louise (67) and Leon Fick (68) and Elsa (66) and Joe (69) Groenewald were among the pensioners who enjoyed the free breakfast.

“This is my first outing to Wildebeest’s pensioner’s breakfast and I am having a great time.

“They spoilt us. I will definitely come again. Thank you to Wildebeest for doing this for us,” she said.

Johan van der Merwe said he and his wife, Denise, are regulars at the complimentary breakfast.
