Court again postpones attempted murder case

The case was postponed to May 5 due to the unavailability of the accused’s legal representative.

The complainant in an attempted murder case, Precious Molokomme (25) of the Angelo informal settlement, and her family expressed disappointment over another postponement in the case today (April 11).

Thomas Mashele (31) faces a charge of attempted murder regarding an incident in November during which Precious’ throat was slit.

At a hearing conducted via the Audio Visual Remand (AVR) system today (April 11), a digital platform that facilitates virtual court proceedings by connecting correctional centres with courtrooms, the case was postponed to May 5 due to the unavailability of Mashele’s legal representative.

ANC members, community members, friends and family support Precious Molokomme.

Community members, joined by ANC chief whip Pelisa Nkunjana, Ward 21 Clr Mashadu Mudau, family and friends gathered in solidarity outside the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court. Many held placards demanding justice, reading “No bail for Thomas Quinton Mashele.”

Precious’ mother, Caroline Molokomme, described the delay as emotionally exhausting, “We knew this would happen because I know such cases drag. We are hurting; we are literally in pain. What he did to my daughter is a pain from which I will never heal. The scar he left haunts me daily. We will not give up. We will continue coming until justice is served.”

Precious admitted she was emotionally drained, “I am hurt, tired and overwhelmed. It is frustrating because he nearly killed me. If I could ask him one question, it would be, ‘Why?’ Why did he want to kill me? I still don’t know.”

The Molokomme family remains steadfast in their fight for justice, urging the legal system to prioritise the safety and dignity of survivors.
