Liam Drummond tops IEB Matric 2025 with six distinctions at CBC Boksburg
Despite the pressure, Drummond emerged as one of CBC’s top achievers, earning six distinctions and placing in the top 1% nationally for English home language, life orientation, and business studies.
For Liam Drummond, matric was not simply the final year of school, but the culmination of a 13-year journey at Christian Brothers College (CBC) Boksburg, one shaped by leadership, discipline, and perseverance.
As head boy, Drummond carried significant responsibility during the demanding 2025 IEB matric year. Alongside his academic workload, he balanced sport, cultural involvement, conferences, and leadership duties. He also served as captain of the debating team, demonstrating effective time management and commitment through his success.

According to him, these results reflect not only academic ability but years of consistent effort and personal growth. Drummond admits that the emotional experience of matric is difficult to articulate.
“The anticipation of the year ahead began long before it started, with anxiety setting in as early as two years prior. However, once matric was underway, I found that dedication and routine helped everything fall into place.
“By focusing on daily tasks and maintaining structure, the overwhelming pressure became manageable. Central to my success was a strong support system.”
Drummond credited his parents for their constant encouragement and his teachers for their understanding and guidance, especially during periods when academic deadlines clashed with leadership and extracurricular commitments.
Having spent his entire schooling life at CBC, he describes the college as a close-knit community that values both achievement and personal well-being.
“The foundation the school gave me made all the difference. I believe that without the values instilled in me over 13 years of discipline, respect, and responsibility, my matric journey would have been far more challenging.”
“The culture of support at CBC allowed me to push myself while knowing I was never alone.”
Looking ahead, Drummond plans to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce in Law at the University of Pretoria. He hopes to continue developing his leadership skills while building a strong academic future grounded in the principles he learned at school.
