Reiger Park on edge after five murders since January

Five murders in Reiger Park since January leave the community shaken. Police urge residents to call with any information.

Residents of Reiger Park are on edge following a string of five murders since January 2026, with no clear motive yet identified.

The recent killings have left families shaken and sparked serious concerns over safety in the area.

According to Constable Johannes Msimanga, spokesperson for the local police station, three of the murders occurred within Reiger Park, one in the Delmore informal settlement, and another in Ramaphosa.

All five cases remain under active investigation, but authorities have yet to determine a link between them.
“The lack of a clear motive is worrying. We are urging residents to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activity immediately, and cooperate with the police to ensure we solve these cases,” Msimanga said.

Local community members expressed fear and frustration. Many have called for increased police visibility and security measures, citing the randomness of the attacks as a major concern.
“It’s terrifying,” said a resident who asked to remain anonymous. You don’t know who could be next, and there doesn’t seem to be any pattern.”

The police have confirmed that forensic teams are working around the clock to gather evidence, and detectives are interviewing potential witnesses. However, with limited leads, the community remains anxious and searching for answers.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward. Residents are encouraged to call 071 676 0555 with any tips that could assist the investigation.
