Residents take action to tackle community challenges

Through these initiatives, the RPRI hopes to inspire change, improve education, and foster hope in a community determined to rewrite its story.

In a community battling drugs, gangsterism, and poverty, a group of determined Reiger Park residents is refusing to sit on the sidelines.

The group, soon to be formalised as the Reiger Park Renewal Initiative (RPRI), has launched a series of projects aimed at improving the lives of local learners and residents.

Supporting local schools
One of their first actions was donating a much-needed printer to Reiger Park High School, responding to the school’s struggle with limited resources.

“We found that some schools here operate with very few books, limited digital access, and overcrowded classrooms. Teachers are doing their best under challenging conditions, and their wellbeing is under constant strain,” the group said.

Upcoming initiatives
The RPRI has ambitious plans for the weeks ahead:

  • Providing lunch packs for primary school learners on excursions
  • Supporting high school entrepreneurship programmes
  • Procuring digital devices for schools
  • Helping a primary school upgrade its kitchen to serve meals more dignifiedly

They are also engaging with philanthropic organisations to secure further support for the community.
Through these initiatives, the RPRI hopes to inspire change, improve education, and foster hope in a community determined to rewrite its story.
