Although the family tried to remain strong, the atmosphere was filled with devastation and sadness.

Pastors from the community joined together in prayer, asking for strength and comfort for the family during the difficult time.

Cousins, aunts, friends and other family members shared tributes and personal memories such as “just last week Wednesday we were making memories on your birthday, and plans for the weekend to celebrate more.”

Jaydin’s father, Dean Magerman, said Jaydin’s warmth was felt by everyone who knew her.

“Like everyone says, her laugh was contagious, and she used to light up the room when she walked in,” he said.

Riaaz Raiman, Jaydin’s boyfriend, delivered a heartfelt tribute in which he spoke about his pain, anger and determination to carry Jaydin’s memory with love.

“I’m angry, I’m heartbroken. I don’t like who this grief is making me, but I promise you I will not make anger be the only thing that I carry. I will carry your light too, your openness, and your belief that love was worth fighting for.”

The family said they would ensure that Jaydin’s death was not in vain, adding that no parent should have to experience the loss of a child.
