Court in Brief

The following cases were recently finalised in the Boksburg/Vosloorus Magistrate’s Courts:

Theft
• Tevin Sheredon Peacock (22) from Farrar Park was sentenced to an R3 000 fine or three months in prison on July 15 for theft.

Peacock pleaded guilty on July 13. He stole a pressure washer, gate motor battery and jumper cables on October 31, last year.

Magistrate Havenga presided and prosecutor Lingane represented the State.

• Denzil Frederick Rees-Gibbs (50) from Johannesburg was sentenced to an R6 000 fine or six months in prison, suspended for five years, on July 13 for theft.

Gibbs pleaded not guilty on November 24, last year, and was found guilty on July 13. He stole a breathalyser machine valued at R20 000 from Unilever in Anderbolt on August 1, 2021.

Magistrate Havenga presided and prosecutor Lingane represented the State.

• Grahamniecha Adams (24) from Reiger Park was sentenced to an R6 000 fine or six months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years, on July 12 for theft.

Adams pleaded guilty and was found guilty on July 12. She stole groceries to the value of R4 430.80 from Pick n Pay Hyper on March 26.

Magistrate Havenga presided and prosecutor Lingane represented the State.

• Lerato Mokoka (32) from Turfontein was sentenced to three years behind bars and declared unfit to possess a firearm on July 5 for stealing clothes.

Mokoka pleaded guilty and was found guilty on July 5. She stole clothing to the value of R18 614 from H&M on June 13.

Magistrate Havenga presided and prosecutor Lingane represented the State.

Trespassing
Wandile Zimase Fihla (22) was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years, on July 6 for trespassing.

Fihla pleaded guilty and was found guilty on July 6. He unlawfully entered a premises in Trichardts Road on January 12.

Magistrate Havenga presided and prosecutor Lingane represented the State.

Contravening a protection order
Bongumezi Edward Sibisi (33) was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years, and declared unfit to possess a firearm on July 26 for contravening a protection order.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on July 26.

Sibisi contravened a protection order issued on December 18, 2020, when he pushed a woman, causing her to fall, in Vosloorus on March 26.

Magistrate Cronjé presided and prosecutor Mokwathi represented the State.

Assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm
• Shange Lindiwe Mozolo (40) was sentenced to twelve months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years, on July 26 for hitting a man over the head with a brush.

She pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm on March 29 and was found guilty on July 26.

The incident happened in Vosloorus on August 28, last year.

Magistrate Cronjé presided and prosecutor Mokwathi represented the State.

• On July 22, Kagiso Powe (25) from Vosloorus was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, wholly suspended for five years, and declared unfit to possess a firearm on a charge of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He pleaded guilty and was found guilty on July 22.

The charge emanates from an incident where Powe hit a woman with a beer bottle in Vosloorus.

Magistrate Cronjé presided and prosecutor Mokwathi represented the State.

House burglary
A 28-year-old man from Vosloorus was sentenced to 36 months’ imprisonment, of which 24 months is suspended for five years, on July 19 for house burglary with the intent to steal and theft charge.

Neo Liswoga pleaded guilty and was found guilty on June 14.

On February 6, Liswoga broke into a house in Vosloorus and stole couches, pots, two mats, two duvet covers and shoes to the value of about R10 000.

Magistrate Cronjé presided and prosecutor Mokwathi represented the State.
