Blue-light robbers strike in Comet
The men showed the victim police appointment cards and told him they need to take him to the police station.
A 39-year-old man lost his car and belongings after being hijacked by a gang of armed robbers posing as police in a white Hyundai H1 with blue lights on Doone Avenue, Comet, in front of Freeway Bible Church, on September 9.
According to Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson Constable Justice Ramaube, the victim told police he was driving a silver Polo at about 11:00 when he was signalled by the Hyundai to pull over.
“Three men in plain clothing got out of the vehicle and asked for the victim’s passport and driver’s licence. He failed to produce these and the men then said they must take him to the police station.
“The men showed the victim police appointment cards and put him into their vehicle. One of the men drove the victim’s Polo.
“They said they are going to the Thembisa Police Station but to the victim’s surprise, this didn’t happen,” said Ramaube.
“Instead, they drove onto the R21. About 5km after the airport they stopped the vehicle and told him to hand over his belongings and get out of the vehicle. The men then drove off.”
