A shootout between security officers and robbers ensued when the officers responded to a robbery.
One robber was shot dead and several others injured during a shootout with security officers following an armed robbery at Heneways Freight Services in Jet Park this afternoon (January 22).
According to information gathered at the scene, about 20 robbers targeted a warehouse at about 10:30 and held about 60 staff at gunpoint and robbed them of their belongings.
The owner of Legendary Guardians Exclusive Protection, Clinton Festraets, said they received information from one of their security guards about the robbery in progress.
“We dispatched our team, and as soon as we pulled into the business park we came under fire. Officers retaliated and gave chase after the suspects, some on foot and others in a vehicle.”

One of the suspects was shot dead next to the N12 highway at the Elandsfontein railway line. Several others were arrested and some of the stolen items recovered.

Another suspect, driving a white light delivery vehicle that was used to enter the business premises, was arrested near Babcock International Group in Jet Park.
When the Boksburg Advertiser visited the scene where the robbery took place, police were also busy arresting a suspect. A firearm was spotted lying on the ground.
The Boksburg Advertiser is still awaiting comment from the police.
