Robber shot dead by customer at Westwood carwash
The owner of the car wash said it was a traumatic experience.
A regular Saturday afternoon turned into a nightmare for the owner of a carwash on the corner of North Rand and Kirschner roads after an attempted robbery that left one robber dead on February 1.
The owner, who wished to remain anonymous, explained that the carwash was about to close at 17:15 when a silver Audi A3 parked in front of their office.
“Two armed men jumped out and entered the office, demanding I open the till. One even shouted at my manager and told him to ‘shut up’. One robber stood near the entrance while the other was inside,” he said.
The situation escalated when an alert customer noticed the armed robbery in progress.
“To protect us, he pulled out his licenced firearm and shot the robber standing near the door. After hearing the gunshots, the robber who had been holding me at gunpoint ran outside. Our security company was contacted and they notified the police,” the owner recounted.
According to the owner, one suspect was declared dead at the scene, another was arrested and a third took off in the Audi A3 in the direction of Beyers Park.
“The customer who shot the robber reacted quickly and decisively. He saved us because the robbers could have harmed us,” the owner said.
Trauma
The owner described the experience as traumatic.
“We owe everything to God and are thankful that He kept us safe,” he said, adding they are looking at enhancing security at the business.
“However, we still believe God will protect us.”
He thanked everyone who supported them following the ordeal.
