A 44-year-old woman was fatally shot in an execution-style shooting at the corner of Main and Brown streets.
She and another woman and a man were walking down the street yesterday (February 27).
Information gathered suggests that a red motor vehicle pulled up alongside the trio and a gunman fired shots at the victims before the assailant/s fled the scene. They are still at large.
The man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his thighs, but the other woman escaped unhurt in the drive-by shooting.
“I believe this was a hit. Nothing was taken from the victims,” said a source who asked not to be identified.
Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson Constable Khakhathi Siphoro confirmed the shooting.
She said police were called to the crime scene where they found the unresponsive woman lying on the street, bearing a gunshot wound to an unspecified part of her body. She was subsequently certified dead on the scene by medical personnel before her body was taken to the Springs state mortuary for further investigation.
The injured man was rushed to hospital for treatment.
Siphoro said police only found one bullet cartridge at the scene. Detectives are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.
