Brandon Pretorius murder case: Matter to continue in November
The matter will continue on November 11.
Ruan Beetge (30) and his co-accused, Gordon Westraad (45), made another appearance at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on September 18.
The matter has been postponed to November 11 for further investigations and has been referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions for a decision.
Westraad and Beetge are accused of killing Pretorius and face charges of murder following an incident that reportedly began at Malbroer Pub and Grill on the evening of April 25.
Pretorius, the father of a one-year-old daughter, died in hospital days after the alleged attack.
The Boksburg Advertiser previously reported that Westraad’s bail application was denied on August 12. According to Magistrate SD Prawlall, Westraad failed to prove exceptional circumstances that would justify his release on bail.
Westraad argued, among other things, that he is the breadwinner for his family and needs to support his wife, who is battling cancer.
Meanwhile, Beetge has abandoned his bail application for now. His legal team withdrew from the case last month for undisclosed reasons, and he has since applied for legal aid.
