Police are searching for remaining Jet Park robbers

Police are hunting for suspects still at large after a gang of armed robbers targeted a business on Yaldwyn Road in Jet Park on September 18.

During the robbery, two suspects were shot and two others were arrested.

Colonel Mack Mngomezulu, Boksburg North SAPS station commander, said some of the robbers arrived in a Suzuki Swift sedan after 11:00, posing as clients with an appointment.

Once inside, they disarmed the security guard and took the gate’s remote control, later using it to let in accomplices driving three trucks.

The men held staff members hostage while some robbers loaded goods onto the vehicles. They also took a delivery driver hostage, who arrived during the robbery in a white Nissan NP200 and the robbers loaded stock onto his bakkie.

One employee alerted the store owner, who then contacted the security company and police. Officers intercepted one of the getaway vehicles on Estee Ackerman Street, where four suspects attempted to flee.

“A shootout ensued after the robbers opened fire on the law enforcers, who then retaliated,” said Mngomezulu.

Two wounded robbers were taken to the hospital, while the police arrested two others. One of the injured suspects has since been discharged. Police also recovered two unlicensed firearms.

The rest of the gang escaped with an undisclosed amount of stock, as well as laptops and employees’ cellphones.

Police are investigating cases of business robbery, kidnapping, possession of unlicensed firearms, hijacking, and attempted murder.
