The shootings, believed to be gang-related, occurred at about 18:50 across several streets in the area, including William Street, Stanbury Road, Regent Street and Martin du Preez Street.
Ruth Faith Marais, Patricia Niewenhuys, Danielle Barlow, Nomasonto Nkosi, Royden Joseph and Mapaso Midian were killed in the tragic incident.
Investigation
While a 23-year-old suspect was arrested shortly after the incident, Nevhuhulwi confirmed that he was later released due to insufficient evidence to proceed with a prosecution. She further said that an 18-year-old was also brought in for questioning but was reportedly not charged.
The lack of arrests has fuelled anger and frustration among community members, who have voiced concerns that no one has yet been held accountable months after the horrific event.
