Male victims urged to stop silence in domestic abuse
The event organisers pointed out men often keep silent because they fear shame and being regarded by their peers as unmanly.
In line with the annual 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign, the Reiger Park SAPS, Thusang Community Development and the Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens recently held a GBV awareness at the Ramaposa Taxi Rank.
This awareness had a special focus on men and boys, saw the team interacting with scores of residents and distributed a total of 300 pamphlets.
One of the event organisers, Sergeant Lufuno Mudzuli, said apart from urging men to respect women’s rights and that they must refrain from abusing them, they also encouraged male domestic abuse victims to seek help instead of suffering in silence.
Mudzuli pointed out men often keep silent because they fear shame and being regarded by their peers as unmanly.
“The law also protects men against any form of domestic violence or abuse. Men must talk instead of retaliating and killing our sisters,” said Mudzuli.
