Eastern Cricket mourns death of head groundsman

He is remembered not only for his outstanding service but for the genuine warmth and kindness he brought to his community.

Members of Eastern Cricket Union are mourning the death of Mncedisi Radebe, the head groundsman at Willowmoore Park, who was killed on New Modder Road on September 27.

According to Captain Nomsa Sekele, spokesperson for the Benoni Police Station, Radebe fell off his motorcycle and was then struck by two vehicles at around 20:00.

“Police found a rope at the scene, which they suspect criminals might have threaded across the road to hook his bike, causing him to fall,” Sekele said.

She said police are witnessing this new modus operandi for hijacking motorbikes. His motorcycle was taken to the police station.

A case of culpable homicide has been opened at the Benoni SAPS.
